Stand up for comedy

The King's Theatre in Glasgow is hosting a mini comedy festival next month. Fresh from the Fringe, Jim Jefferies will perform his show Fully Functional on September 2 and Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert will present a new live show on September 3. Jason Byrne presents People's Puppeteer on September 8, featuring new stories and props. Jack Dee will also make an appearance on September 25, after a six-year absence from stand-up.

Family fun day

This Sunday, Glasgow's Tramway is hosting a special event in honour of the Paralympic Torch Relay. The Flame Celebration Family Day will include music and dance performances from talents in the field of arts and disability. There will also be creative endeavours and sporting events for children.

Traditional sound

Mr McFall's Chamber are performing in a special Four Corners tour next month, featuring commissions from four of Scotland's most celebrated traditional musicians. Six concerts will take place in September in Applecross, Tobermory, Musselburgh, Ullapool, Cromarty and Findhorn. Composers and musicians Aidan O'Rourke, Fraser Fifield, Corrina Hewat and James Ross will be involved in the project.

Caught on film

The short film Wolf by artists Dalziel + Scullion will be shown at Woodend Barn in Banchory from August 28 to 31. On August 31, Dalziel + Scullion will be in conversation with the film's music composer Aidan O'Rourke to discuss ideas raised in the film and the filming process.

Talking point

Audiovisual artist Chris Dooks will appear in the next Atlas Arts' Talking Art series on September 1. He will discuss his recent work, including the installation Moons or These Knots are Not Knots, commissioned by Ayr Renaissance, at the talk at Tigh-na-Sgire, Portree.
