l GLASGOW'S West End Festival, that resilient combination of community events, quality music and much else that occurs annually in the environs of Byres Road, has announced its 2013 dates and will run from May 31 to June 30.

It celebrates its 18th birthday this year and in recognition of the fact has welcomed the youthful former Lord Provost of Glasgow, Bob Winter, a long-time resident of the west end, on to its board.

The 2012 festival involved an estimated 1800 artists and performers, and organisers promise approaching 500 events in this year's programme, which will launch next month.

l AC Projects, the sonic invention agency established by former maitre d' arts of Stirling Tolbooth Alasdair Campbell, is bringing a second edition of its ear-bending Counterflows festival to venues in Glasgow at the start of April. St Andrews in the Square, CCA, Stereo, Southside Studuios and Glad Cafe are the venues for a programme that begins on the evening of Friday April 5 and continues til late on Sunday April 7 and includes Alex Neilson, Phil Niblock, Peter Brotzman, Kan Mikami and Jandek.

Full weekend passes are now sold out, but tickets are still available for individual shows.

l The Citizens' Theatre's fundraising campaign to renew the seating in the main auditorium passed the milestone of £200,00 last week, en route to its £314,000 target. It is sure to receive another substantial boost from Tell Me The Truth About Love, a fundraising event on Monday April 14 that has been put together Maureen Beattie and her father Johnny.

The Beatties have attracted a stellar line-up of talent to perform in the evening of poetry and prose, including Siobhan Redmond, Simon Russell Beale and Billy Boyd. The night will also include an auction, presided over by Johnny Beattie, and auctioneer Anita Manning, including lots donated by David Tennant and Alan Cumming. Tickets, which include a glass of fizz, are £24.
