Jazz festival announces star attactions

Leading European jazz festival, Jazz sous les Pommiers, has announced the first names in its 2014 programme.

Singers Dianne Reeves and Cecile McLorin Salvant, pianists Brad Mehldau, Monty Alexander and Bill Carrothers and double bassist Stephane Kerecki are among the attractions that will turn the compact, ancient Normandy town of Coutances into European jazz headquarters from May 24 to 31.

The French festival has established a reputation among promoters and festival organisers as a tastemaker event and in the past has featured Scottish musicians including drummer John Rae's Celtic Feet, trumpeter Colin Steele's quintet and the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra with their imminent guest Kurt Elling.
