One-man show proving to be a smart move

One-man show proving to be a smart move

SOUNDS in the Suburbs diversifies into theatre this weekend with a one-man show Pirates and Mermaids, which was premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe last year.

Having brought dozens of musical talents in the acoustic and Americana genres, as well as a number of stand-up comedians to Jordanhill, SitS is using music film and audio captured around the world relayed by smartphone to stage the production, which has two sittings at Woodend Bowling and Tennis Club on Sunday. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential.

Heritage is in focus at port

THE people of Newhaven, the Forth fishing port of Edinburgh between Leith and Granton, are discovering their heritage in partnership with local facilitator Citizen Curator, based at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop's premises in the area.

The Newhaven Fishing Folk Choir meets tonight, and every Tuesday in April and May, at Victoria Primary School between 7pm and 9pm. It is open to all and free. At the same time this evening in Newhaven Parish Church Hall, the Community History Group will be sharing the history of the area, tonight exploring the port's links with the Orkney Isles.

On Friday April 25 musician Jed Milroy will be the guest at a Working Lunch between noon and 1pm at the Sculpture Workshop in Hawthornvale, talking about forming the choir and working with primary schoolchildren to write a new Song for Newhaven.
