The plans of Edinburgh International Festival director Fergus Linehan to release details of his first programme in parts rather than in one have been revised after complaints from regular ticket buyers.

When the EIF began taking bookings for the Ivo van Hove production of Antigone in November, it announced that tickets for concerts and recitals would go on sale at the start of February, with the complete festival opening for bookings after the launch of the programme on March 18.

This week, however, Festival supporters received a letter saying that following complaints that having tickets for sale for the musical aspect of the programme before theatre, dance and opera would complicate the planning of those who like to enjoy the full gamut of the EIF experience, tickets for concerts and recitals would now go on sale at the same time as everything else with priority booking opening on March 19 and public booking on March 28.

Linehan writes: "I would like to apologise for any confusion caused by this. Our intention was to explore new ways to improve our service to audiences. I hope that by making this alteration now we will be able to address the concerns that have been raised."
