Fringe Q&As: Wendy Wason

In the first of our new series, HeraldScotland blogger Wendy Wason tells us about her Fringe show, Edinburgh experiences and her favourite heckle.

Tell us about your Fringe show

My fringe show is about my husband nearly dying in a hospital in LA. But with jokes.

Best thing about the Fringe?

Seeing loads of friends and family here for the whole month.

Worst thing about the Fringe?

Proximity to family.

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

I think my dad took me to my first Fringe show when I was 9. So over 30 years now.

Favourite Fringe venue?

The Gilded Balloon.

Best Fringe memory?

I loved the Old Gilded Balloon when Late 'n' Live was on. One year loads of comics got up onstage and sang; "The Only Gay Eskimo" with Corky and the Juice Pigs.

Best heckle?

I did a joke about healthy bacteria in yoghurt and someone shouted out: "L. casei Immunitas". It stumped me completely.

Craziest on stage experience?

I once had a guy shout at me that he was on Lithium. That was interesting.

What's on your rider?

Tea. I'm a big tea drinker. I drink water like water.

How do you wind down after a show?

Nice glass of red.

What do you love about Scotland?

I love how straightforward everyone in Scotland is. There's no mucking about. I also love that lots of people speak like me.

What do you like about Edinburgh?

The castle and the fact that I'm home.

What's the most Scottish thing you've done?

Been born to Scottish parents.

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

Sick edgy ones. The Scots laugh at pain. I think my show is going to appeal to my people.

Favourite joke?

A guy knocks on the door of a house.

A wee boy answers. He's wearing a cravat, smoking a cigar and has a glass of brandy in his hand.

The man says: Is you mum or dad home?

Wee boy: Does it look like my mum or dad are home?
