Lucy Beaumont: We Can Twerk It Out Pleasance Courtyard: That Until Aug 24 Three stars

No pressure, then.

Not only does Lucy Beaumont present her debut Fringe show having recently won both the BBC New Comedy Award and Chortle Award for Best Newcomer, she has also been mentioned in the same breath as Victoria Wood, Caroline Aherne and Les Dawson, and has received the comedy blessing of Johnny Vegas. It's a slight disappointment, therefore, that her act trades rather heavily on northern clichés rather than subverts them. We're in the befuddled company of Hull-born Lucy as she wanders in a self-confessed "dizzy" manner through otherworldly trips to London and Blackpool, while crossing off eligible men in the audience and wearing a cosy pink hoody and a thick Yorkshire accent. It's a skilful exaggeration (if not an outright parody) and her timing wins a good few laughs by itself. This wide-eyed ingénue is appealing company, and ultimately that's what helps us over the weaker, safer patches in the material.
