The basic story – a blood-chilling demon wanders the globe, trying to buy the souls of those enduring their darkest hours – is simple enough, but the mischief is in the telling. Nicola McCartney's witty script sees a well-intentioned church choir co-opted for the task, and under Zoe Seaton's direction the god-fearing quartet are beaten, violently spun, shut in cupboards and generally terrorised by the dreaded Melmoth, while doing everything they can to avoid meeting his gaze.
