Peter Kay's return to Phoenix Nights raised more than £5 million for Comic Relief with a string of sell-out shows.

The programme's cast reunited for 16 performances in Manchester, selling 196,000 tickets.

The opening night performance was rescheduled after cast member Ted Robbins fell ill on stage.

The curtain was closed immediately and staff rushed to the stage with medical equipment when the 59-year-old collapsed.

Robbins plays Den Perry in the show, which is based on comedian Kay's Channel 4 series of the same name.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: "The stand-alone event is a fantastic boost for the charity and the money raised will make such a difference to thousands of lives.

"A huge thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and supported such a great cause."
