McBusted star Dougie Poynter has confessed to Sir David Attenborough that he moved into his latest home because he wanted to live near the TV naturalist.

The bass player, who has had his own brushes with nature as a contestant on I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!, said he googled his wildlife hero in order to find a good spot to live.

The pair came face to face when they shared a sofa for an edition of The Graham Norton Show to be screened by BBC1 tomorrow.

Former king of the jungle Poynter admitted: "I'm a really, really big fan of yours. So much so that when I was looking to move and didn't quite know where to move to I just googled where you live because it must be the most serene place ever, I thought.

"So I live just up the road from you. I see you quite a bit - on the way to the dry cleaners I go past your house."

Sir David revealed to chat presenter Norton that he had not been to a football match for around 80 years - despite Match Of The Day being screened on BBC2 for some of the time he was controller of the channel.

The broadcaster's late brother Lord Attenborough had been a devoted lifelong footie fan and life president of Chelsea Football Club.

Sir David told Norton: "I went to a terrific match. The goalkeeper was McLaren and the left wing was Danny Liddle. It was Leicester City and it was 80 years ago. That was the last match I went to."

Asked about being in charge of Match Of The Day as BBC2 controller, he said: "I didn't have to watch it."
