Alaska: Earth's Frozen Kingdom, BBC Two, 8pm

Gravel-voiced Fifer Dougray Scott narrates this latest three-parter from the BBC's Natural History Unit. This time the subject is Alaska, and the series tells the story of both the humans and the animals which have made it their home, despite it being one of the most treacherous and difficult regions on earth. The title is something of a misnomer - summer temperatures can hit 90 degrees and we start tonight's first episode as spring is transforming the winter landscape by bringing warmth and light. So out come the young: black bear cubs, fluff-ball baby sea otters and Arctic ground squirrels on the hunt for a mate.

Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil, BBC One, 12.05am

House Of Cards and The Usual Suspects star Kevin Spacey is the standout turn in this superior 1997 crime drama, based on John Berendt's 1994 non-fiction bestseller and directed by Clint Eastwood. John Cusack plays John Kelso, a New York reporter dispatched to Savannah, Georgia to cover the murder trial of colourful antique dealer Jim Williams (Spacey). Before you can say rent boys, English bulldogs and Southern Gothic (all of these feature), Kelso is up to his New York neck in skullduggery and Deep South kookiness. It tanked at the box office: today it's regarded as a minor classic, so it's definitely worth a watch.
