Scotland + Venice Exhibition
The Lighthouse, Glasgow, 6th February - 18th March
If you're interested in Scotland's wonderful architectural and design heritage, the Scotland + Venice Exhibition is sure to catch your eye. Curated by Architecture and Design Scotland, the projects exhibited have been shown at the Venice Biennale, one of the most famous and prestigious cultural organisations in the world and celebrates Scottish architecture from the past decade. There are five chosen projects from the past ten years, which showcase the wonderful variety of Scottish architecture, its development over the years and its international reputation.
Idlewild
O2 ABC, Glasgow, 7th - 8th March
Scottish indie rock legends Idlewild are embarking on a tour to promote their eighth studio album, Everything Ever Written. Formed in 1995, Idlewild are an enduring force in the Scottish music scene and their fans are always pleased to see them perform at home.
The Royal Ballet: Swan Lake
Cineworld Renfrew Street, Glasgow, 17th March
Can't make it to the ballet, or always wanted to give it a shot? Just make your way to Cineworld to see the classic Swan Lake broadcast live from the Royal Opera House. Swan Lake is one of The Royal Ballet's statement pieces. If you've never considered experiencing the ballet before, Swan Lake is a good place to start. Plus, there are the advantages of seeing it in the cinema - popcorn!
Scottish Golf Show
SECC, Glasgow, 27th - 29th March
The golf enthusiast's dream, the Scottish Golf Show marks the start of golf season with 125 exhibitors showcasing the latest products and gadgets, alongside stalls promoting glamorous golfing holidays to Spain and beyond. Now in its tenth year, the organisers are promising the biggest and best show yet. Aiming to appeal to the whole family, there is also a kid's zone and fun "skill zone challenges" to take part in.
Alasdair Gray: Spheres of Influence I
Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow, until 25th May
Part of the Alasdair Gray Season, Spheres of Influence I celebrates the work of one of Scotland's most renowned artists - Glasgow based Alasdair Gray. A Glasgow School of Art graduate, Gray is a celebrated poet, playwright, novelist, painter and printmaker. Spheres of Influence I focuses on the influences on Gray's work and how this affected his practice. Notable influences include William Blake and Paul Gauguin. The exhibition is on until the end of May, so there is no excuse to miss it.
Glasgow International Comedy Festival
Various venues, Glasgow, 12th - 24th March
Comedians such as Stewart Lee, Susan Calman and Christian O'Connell bring their Edinburgh Fringe shows from August to the west for those who didn't manage to venture through last year. Glasgow is a hub for live comedy, with acts like Frankie Boyle often testing out new material here before taking it fully public. Dylan Moran and Simon Amstell are performing their brand new shows at the festival this year. Venues are based across Glasgow, from the coveted The Stand to the SECC.
