Forth time lucky

Forth Valley Open Studios CIC, a not-for-profit limited company, has been given a £5000 award for All Lottery funding to help promote the event throughout central Scotland. The third annual Forth Valley Open Studios event will take place from June 9 to 17 and involves over 100 artists participating in events in locations throughout the Trossachs, Ochils, Campsies and Falkirk area.

Strings attached

Glasgow's new music ensemble, The Electric String Orchestra will launch the West End Festival on May 31 with a special gig at Oran Mor. Musicians including Emma Pollock, Rachel Sermanni and the band Twilight Sad will be performing on the night. Each act will be performing a song accompanied by full string orchestra.

Ways with words

The Scottish Poetry Library's monthly Neu! Reekie! event features spoken word performances, film-animation and music fusions. May's event takes place on Friday at the Scottish Book Trust in Edinburgh. The event features the work of poet Claire Pollard, music by Found, a pop collective from Edinburgh who are signed to Chemikal Underground, and a collaboration between composer and vocalist Fiona Soe Paing's and animator Zennor Alexander.
