l Rise Early, Be Industrious, an exhibition by Olivia Plender, opens at the CCA, Glasgow on October 13.

Plender will bring together a series of room-sized installations, including sculptures, board games and video, in an exploration of attitudes to mass education.

l Oxjam music festival returns this month with a series of events across Scotland raising funds for Oxfam. Highlights include the We're Skint, They're Skinter one-day festival at SWG3, Glasgow, on October 6 and the Oxjam takeover in Shetland, including dozens of artists from a variety of music genres performing across five venues in Lerwick on October 20.

l East Kilbride Arts Centre will screen The Space Between on Thursday. The film, produced by Lyre Productions and set in Edinburgh, tells the story of two strangers brought together and given the chance to change their lives. Writer and director Tim Barrow will introduce the film with a Q&A session following the screening.
