The new annual Dr Gavin Wallace Fellowship has been created to enable a writer based in Scotland to develop their craft and to produce a work of quality.
The Fellowship involves a stipend of £20,000 for one year. The first fellowship, in 2013–14, will be hosted by the Association for Scottish Literary Studies and in subsequent years will be hosted by an organisation which will be selected through an open application process. The successful candidate will be selected by a panel which will include members of the ASLS Council, and representatives of Creative Scotland and of the family of the late Dr Wallace. Gaelic poet, lyricist and cultural activist Aonghas MacNeacail (above) takes to the road this weekend to celebrate the role that music has played in his life.
MacNeacail is heading north to Ross-shire and the Isle of Lewis with a show originally conceived for his 70th birthday celebrations last year. The show includes pianist Andy Thorburn, singer-harpist Mary Ann Kennedy and fiddle-mandola duo Rona Wilkie and Marit Falt and calls at Ceilidh House, Ullapool, on Friday; An Lanntair, Stornoway, on Saturday, and Old Brewery, Cromarty, on Sunday.

The winners have been announced of the Scottish Album of the Year Art Commission, established as a sister prize to the SAY Award, with a £20,000 prize fund provided by Creative Scotland.
The winners are Matthew Corden, Francesca Garvey, Lois Green, Gregor Morrison, Emma Reid, Lisa Scrimgeour, Marianne Wilson and Yang Zhao. Each artist was awarded £1000 each for making the shortlist. The artists were asked to contribute two exclusive pieces for a group show which has now opened at the Glasgow CCA Intermedia Gallery.

Screen Machine – Scotland's only mobile cinema – has launched its 15th anniversary programme of events. A series of one-day film festivals, visits to new locations and an education pilot for rural schools are among the special events announced to mark the birthday.
The tour visits 19 Scottish islands, including the Orkney isles of Sanday, Stronsay, Westray and Hoy, plus the isles of Eigg, Rum, Coll and Tiree. Crowd-sourced Scottish documentary, We Are Northern Lights, will kick-off a season of specially curated titles for 2013.
