Podcasts add to festival concert experience

The Edinburgh International Festival and Sinfini Music have been working on "SoundBite" podcasts, articles, films, opera cartoon strips, interviews with musicians and short filmed sessions to share and explain the music and performers featuring in this year's concert programme.

The public can download a playlist, listen to artists explaining their choice of music and what it means, as well as sample music from the concerts. Recently added artists include the Pavel Haas Quartet, pictured, and there is also a comic strip by William Elliot telling the story of Berlioz's opera Les Troyens.

The arts under independence

FIONA Hyslop, the Culture and External Affairs Secretary, is to hold a question and answer session next week.

The Cabinet Secretary will outline her vision for the sector under independence before hosting a public discussion at Glasgow School of Art (GSA) on July 18 from 1-3pm.

The discussion will be chaired by Tom Inns, the GSA Director and the event is free. This will be the sixth such discussion Ms Hyslop has taken part in, but the first designed specifically for the culture sector.

Spaces are limited, so the Scottish Government has asked attendees to register in advance.
