GLASGOW'S Southside Film Festival returns this month.

Running from May 17 to 20, the event will showcase shorts, features, animation and documentaries, with talks and workshops. The film and music strand SouthXSouthside includes a screening of Ballads of the Book, featuring collaborations between Scottish musicians and writers. Pollokshaws Burgh Hall is the venue for a screening of Buster Keaton's classic comedy The General and there will be events at the boat shed in Queen's Park and Govanhill Baths.

Organisers of the Wickerman Festival have announced The Blockheads and Bad Manners will headline the Scooter Tent. The Blockheads, who celebrate their 35th anniversary this September and first played Wickerman's main stage six years ago, will close the tent on Friday, July 20. Bad Manners will take to the stage on the Saturday night, bringing their ska sound to East Kirkcarswell Farm in Dumfries and Galloway.

The Dundee Degree Show 2012, the annual celebration of the city's best students from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, takes place this month. The exhibition will feature the work of nearly 300 students from all 11 undergraduate programmes. The show generates an estimated £1.5m for the local economy each year. This year's exhibition forms part of the Ignite 2012 festival, a 10-day celebration of creativity and culture across Dundee, Angus and Fife.
