l Audiovisual work Songs From The Shipyards is to be presented at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.
The event traces the history of shipyards throughout Britain with a 60-minute film accompanied by a live musical score performed by folk band The Unthanks. The film tells the story of the rise and fall of the shipbuilding industry and its impact on the lives of those who worked there throughout the 20th century.

l The shortlist for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize has been announced, with Frank Cottrell Boyce's sequel to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang one of the books on the shortlist. Boyce, already an award-winning children's author, is joined on the upper age category shortlist by David Walliams with his book about a jewel-thief granny. The prize, set up in 2008, aims to give recognition to the funniest children's books.

l The next Changing Scotland event takes place from November 2-4 in Ullapool at The Ceilidh Place. Changing Scotland aims to explore issues concerning the role of the arts, culture and identity in Scotland. Speakers include Tom Nairn, Alan Bissett and Janet Paisley.
