l It has been announced that this year's Usher Hall Annual Hallowe'en Party will have a 1920s theme.

The party, which will take place on Sunday October 28, will include the screening of the silent film The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, accompanied by the sounds of Donald MacKenzie on the Usher Hall's organ. A jazz band will also perform in the cafe bar.

l The Edinburgh University Theatre Company will perform Spring Awakening from October 16 to 23. The EUTC has spent the past few months devising a new version of the show, exploring the lives of 12 teenagers growing up in a small town. The performances will take place at the Debating Hall in Teviot Row House in Edinburgh.

l New writing theatre company Grid Iron has commissioned a new play from young playwright Ella Hickson. The show, titled The Authorised Kate Bane, will be performed at The Traverse, Edinburgh, and The Tron, Glasgow, next month.

l Dr Feelgood, above, will make an appearance at Glasgow's King Tut's Wah Wah Hut on Friday and Strathpeffer Pavilion on Saturday. The gigs will feature the band's signature British rhythm and blues music, including hits such as Milk & Alcohol, Down at the Doctors and Roxette.

l The Meadows Chamber Orchestra begins its winter season at Edinburgh's Canongate Kirk on Saturday October 6 with a programme that includes two premieres in Tom David Wilson's Kernel and Oliver Searle's Harbour Dreams. Guest soloist Hannah Foster, who is studying at St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh, joins the orchestra for Mozart's Flute Concerto No2 in D Major and the concert culminates in Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. l The sound of the Hot Club of France will be recalled when New Orleans clarinettist Evan Christopher brings his Django a la Creole group to Dundee's Caird Hall on October 5. Christopher is joined by guitarists Dave Kelbie and David Blenkhorn and bassist Sebastien Girot.
