l Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McDougall, whose latest album The Greatest Ones Alive has just won the Western Canadian Music Awards trophy for Roots Album of the Year 2012, appears at Woodend Tennis Club in Glasgow on Thursday, December 6.
Of Canadian-Swedish parentage, McDougall was born in Sweden but in 2001, learning of a music scene that has produced groups including the Be-Good Tanyas, she relocated to Vancouver and has followed the Tanyas to international success, touring widely in Europe and becoming one of Lufthansa's favourite in-flight sounds.

l The Edinburgh International Festival has appointed Roy Luxford as planning and operations director to succeed Alison Riach, who is moving on after six years in the post. While Riach came to the job from the world of opera and music, Luxford's background is in theatre and dance, with roles at Cheek by Jowl, Sadler's Wells and DV8, and with Michael Clark and the Fringe-born hit Stomp. His own production company was behind director Tim Supple's epic One Thousand and One Nights which played the Royal Lyceum during EIF 2011.

l Edinburgh's Open Eye Gallery has three Christmas shows opening on Monday. On a Small Scale is the work of 150 artists invited to paint, draw and use mixed media on A5-size boards; a total of more than 400 affordable gifts. As well as another room of new works from gallery artists, the Yule shows also include The Black and White Room, featuring monochromatic works by names such as Bellany, Hockney, Picasso and Rembrandt. All three run until noon on Christmas Eve.
