Glasgow hosts auditions to find new teen stars
TeenStar, the UK's only singing competition exclusively for pre-teens and teenagers, holds its Scottish audition at City Halls, Glasgow, on Saturday, February 22. The competition culminates in a National Grand Final.
Talents brought to wider attention by the contest include Birdy, Lucy Spraggan, Jaymi Hensley and Jahmene Douglas, both of whom have now signed to Sony Music, and Luke Friend, who is appearing on The X Factor.
Prizes include £5000 cash for the winning act to help develop their music, recording studio time with some of the UK's top producers, singing lessons and extensive promotion on YouTube.

Burt Bacharach
songwriter Burt Bacharach has announced a new tour of the UK at the age of 85.
Of the six dates, three see him accompanied by a full orchestra, two at the Royal Festival Hall, London, and his sole Scottish date at Edinburgh Playhouse on July 30. Tickets are £60 to £34.50.

RSNO director
to step down
The director of the RSNO Chorus, Timothy Dean, will step down from the post at the end of the current season, after concerts in Edinburgh and Glasgow at the end of May, where Peter Oundjian conducts Mahler Eight, The Symphony Of A Thousand, and a chorus excursion to Prague in June.
Dean, who is also head of opera at the Royal Conservatoire Of Scotland, was appointed to the RSNO post in November 2006.
He has recently been much in demand internationally, with work in New Zealand, Hong Kong and Germany as well as increased responsibility at the Conservatoire, overseeing new conducting fellowships.
The orchestra hopes to appoint his successor before moving into its new home, being built adjacent to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, later this year.
