Fionna and the Stompers mark anniversary

Whighams Jazz Club, Edinburgh, celebrates its fifth anniversary on March 30 with singer Fionna Duncan hosting a special edition of the popular weekly sessions that have featured musicians from both sides of the Atlantic and offered a platform to established and emerging local talents.

Joining Duncan will be a hand-picked band of her favourite musicians: former Clyde Valley Stompers clarinettist Forrie Cairns, pianist Brian Kellock, double bassist Ronnie Rae and drummer Tom Bancroft.

Ballads date for Snakeheads

Glasgow trio The Amazing Snakeheads have announced April 14 as the release date for their debut album.

Amphetamine Ballads will appear on the Domino label, home to Arctic Monkeys and fellow Scots Franz Ferdinand, The Pastels and James Yorkston.

"A monument to the redemptive powers of rock 'n' roll, full of rage, romance and dark humour", the album was recorded in night-time sessions at the Green Door Studio, Glasgow.

The band, consisting of Dale Barclay, William Coombe and Jordan Hutchison, released a one-off 7-inch record on Domino last summer, the blistering 84-second-long Testifying Time. Their monthly residency at Broadcast in Sauchiehall Street continues tonight and on March 28 and April 25.
