A third collection from the theatrical Paloma Faith, and you would be very foolish to bet against it repeating the top ten success of 2009's Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful? and 2012's Fall to Grace.
But there is a feeling of the the law of diminishing returns here, with the oblique, if possibly entirely meaningless, album title married to a collection of songs that never go anywhere other than exactly where you'd expect. Lead track Can't Rely On You is the sole production contribution from man-of-the-moment Pharrell Williams, and it does exactly what the man has done for others. In fact everything on the album sound awfully similar to something else you've heard before, whether it is by Amy Winehouse, Dusty Springfield, or, less admirably, Duffy.
Ms Faith's people are at pains to point out that Williams and songsmith Dianne Warren (who contributes the retro soul of Only Love Can Hurt Like This) sought out Faith with their wares, rather than she employing their hit-making qualities. But when their contributions are no more surprising than her own songs of fickle love and broken hearts (only the raunchy Mouth to Mouth excepted), why the need to point that out?
