A rock radio station which has been off the air for six years will return to Scottish airwaves next month.

XFM, which was a leading station for indie, alternative and rock music, will be back on air on April 7.

Renowned for pioneering new music, XFM Scotland will continue the station's history of supporting new and upcoming talent.

The station previously championed acts including Biffy Clyro, The View and Snow Patrol.

Former XFM Scotland presenter Fraser Thomson will return to host the XFM Scotland Breakfast Show weekdays 6am to 10am. The music focused show will play a mix of new upcoming bands and XFM favourites alongside topical conversation.

The 'voice of new music' Jim Gellatly, already a firm favourite, will present XFM Scotland Drivetime weekdays 4pm to 7pm.

Broadcast veteran Tom Russell, who recently celebrated 30 years in radio will host Weekend Breakfast 6am to 10am.

The presenters will join a stellar line-up including Jo Good (weekdays from 1pm to 4pm) John Kennedy (weekdays 10pm to 1am), Blur drummer Dave Rowntree (every Thursday 9pm to 10pm) and comedian Josh Widdicombe (Saturday 10am-1pm)

Chris Baughen, XFM managing director, said: "Coming back to Scotland after nearly six years away is huge for us. We're really excited to be returning to our loyal listeners across the country. We'll continue to support emerging Scottish bands, as well as XFM favourites from across indie, alternative and rock music."

XFM Scotland's new Drivetime presenter Jim Gellatly, added: "Some of the best moments of my career were on XFM Scotland so I'm over the moon to be joining the station again nearly six years on. When I got the call from Chris [Baughen], I didn't have to think twice. It feels like coming home for me."

XFM will be broadcast on 96.3FM in Paisley and on DAB across central Scotland.
