Almost 150 people have entered an innovative ultra-short film competition... and there's still time to get involved.

9.88 Films invites moviemakers from across Scotland, the UK and the Commonwealth to submit films of up to 10 seconds on any theme.

The challenge, which is supported by Channel 4, has been launched as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme and has been inspired by the current Commonwealth Games 100m record of 9.88 seconds. It aims to show how great moving images can captivate audiences in the same way.

The jury for the competition includes Sherlock director Paul McGuigan, The Inbetweeners Movie producer Christopher Young and comedian Robert Florence. It will be chaired by Director of Creative Diversity at Channel 4 Stuart Cosgrove.

Cosgrove said: "Recent years have seen ultra short forms of content - tweets, GIFs and ever shorter films - become an accessible form of mainstream communications. We wanted to take that idea and show that short form doesn't limit creativity or the creation of great works of art, and that making films can be simple and unintimidating.

"We're hoping to discover some great new talent via 9.88 Films and show the world what can be done in just 10 seconds. Just like the 100m final - ultra short films can be truly captivating."

Eileen Gallagher, Independent Director on the Glasgow 2014 Board and Chair of the Ceremonies, Culture and Queen's Baton Relay Committee, said: "9.88 Films is a fascinating part of the Cultural Programme which will inspire and challenge anyone who wants to make a short film to captivate us in the same time as the 100m Commonwealth Record. Film makers of all abilities and from every Commonwealth country can take part making this one of the most exciting and accessible projects which make up the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme."

A number of leading figures in the UK film industry including director and critic Mark Cousins and award-winning filmmaker Morag McKinnon have entered the contest. Watch some of the entries below.
