DUNBLANE Cathedral Art Guild's next concert is at the cathedral on May 10 at 7.30pm and features violinist Charlotte Rowan, the professional name of Rowan McGirr, who is from the town. She will be playing Kreisler, Brahms, Wieniawski, Elgar, Sarasate and Bach. Before then, another young talent from the area, Sarah Bramley, had her debut solo exhibition in Dunblane Museum this month. A pupil at Newton Primary, Dunblane High School and Morrison's Academy in Crieff, Bramley studied at Edinburgh College of Art. Her show has been inspired by photographs of the frontline in the First World War and her interest was initially sparked by the old bunkers and trench works on Sheriffmuir that were used for troop simulation manoeuvres before going to the front.

Gaelic singer's fundraiser date
AWARD-WINNING singer and Gaelic activist Arthur Cormack, pictured, and accordionist, keyboardist and composer Blair Douglas top the bill at a fund-raising concert for Fèis Eilean na Hearadh in Tarbert on Harris on Friday, April 18. Through Fèisean nan Gàidheal the fèisean movement has supported the development of community-based Gaelic arts tuition festivals - or fèisean - throughout Scotland over the past 25 years and has been a major factor in developing the careers of musicians including singer Julie Fowlis, fiddler Lauren MacColl and harper Jennifer Port who have gone on to enjoy successful careers.

Rising stars are ready to sing
THE National Youth Choir of Scotland's National Boys Choir and National Girls Choir each have concerts coming up at the end of their Easter residential weeks of singing workshops, lessons and rehearsals. The boys, 160 of them, aged between 10 and 16, are first, and the fruits of their intensive week can be heard at Perth Concert Hall on April 11, at 3pm. The girls, 125 voices aged 12 to 16, will be training the following week and give a concert in St Cuthbert's Church, Princes Street, Edinburgh, on April 19 at 3pm.

Landmark for youth orchestra
THE National Youth Orchestra of Scotland has launched a fundraising appeal to mark 35 years since its first gathering, for a summer music camp at Glenalmond School in 1979. The 35th Anniversary celebrations will include a concert at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on August 2 and donations of over £100 will be rewarded with two VIP tickets for that event. A total of £10 covers the cost of music hire for a NYOS musician for one project, while £20 buys a set of strings and £40 hires an amplifier for the jazz summer school. £200 hires a rare heckelphone needed in the performance of Strauss's Alpensinfonie and £1000 will hire the concert grand piano Benjamin Grosvenor will use to play the Symphonic Variations of Cesar Franck. nyos.co.uk
