He's one of music's hottest properties... and Paolo Nutini is ready to warm up the crowds as he plays the Big Weekend tonight.

The Scottish-born star will perform on the Main Stage at Sunday's Radio One event.

The Herald are following all the action, and the rest of the day's performances, on our live blog.

Paolo says the show should blow the storm clouds away for the 25,000 people gathered to watch.

"We've just started touring," he said, talking to the Herald in his dressing room before the show, "And things are starting to come together really well, we're really getting into our rhythm now so tonight should be good.

"At gigs like this you can really test yourself on stage. It's going to be crazy."

Paolo revealed that the last time he played a Big Weekend it was in Dundee and he was tasked with performing as the gates opened and the crowd rushed in.

"It was like a torrent, there were all these folk running in. I was standing there playing my guitar and it was surreal, like a stampede. I don't even think any of them noticed I was there."

But tonight he takes over the Main Stage after Tinie Tempah and before headliner Katy Perry.

After Kings of Leon brought on Chris Martin as a surprise guest, will Paolo have any surprises?

"We're just going to be doing our own thing tonight but there are people here I'd like to work with - Kasabian, I've met Serge a few times and he's a good guy; the 1975; Iike Tinie Tempah.

"I do a cover of Chvrches that I've left out of my set tonight out of respect for them but maybe that was the wrong thing to do, maybe they'd like to hear it.

"They can let me know if they do."

Chvrches... over to you.
