ALLAN MacDonald, one of the three internationally regarded piping brothers from Glenuig, premieres his large-scale composition The Bruce 700 for Stirling 2014 at the city's Albert Halls on June 26.

Commissioned by Stirling Council, the piece features leading Scots musicians such as fiddler Aidan O'Rourke, Gaelic singer Kathleen MacInnes, saxophonists Dick Lee and Fraser Fifield and bassist Duncan Lyall of the Treacherous Orchestra alongside MacDonald's brothers, Angus (pipes) and Iain (flute) in a cast that also includes Stirling District Schools Pipe Band and the Tolbooth's traditional music group. MacDonald, who won a Herald Angel for his pibroch series of concerts at Edinburgh International Festival in 2004, previously composed a well received piece in honour of William Wallace, premiered at the Tolbooth, Stirling in 2005.
