HA ORCHESTRA, the first orchestra in the UK to play exclusively traditional African instruments, has its own festival at Maryhill Community Central Halls on Saturday and appears as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme which accompanies the Commonwealth Games.
The orchestra, which includes original Bhundu Boy Rise Kagona alongside musicians from all over Africa and Scotland appears at the Merchant City Festival on Friday. It also opens the Emancipation Day Carnival at Glasgow Green Live Zone on August 1 and plays on Kelvingrove Band Stand on August 2.
Tattoo is taken across country
THE Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, from August 1 to 23 on Edinburgh Castle Esplande is also giving bijou Homecoming year perform-ances in Glasgow's George Square (August 7), Stirling's Thistle Centre Precinct (August 12), and City Square, Dundee (August 19).
The shows will include Highland Dancers from the Antipodes, the Trindad and Tobago Defence Force Steel Orchestra and the Massed Pipes and Drums.
The free hour-long performances run from 12.30pm in each city.
