Electric Honey, "the most successful student-run label in the world" according to Uncut magazine, has teamed up with promoters Regular Music and Magners cider, to bring the Electric Honey Sessions to Kelvingrove Bandstand on Sunday 9 August as part of Magners Summer Nights.

Electric Honey is Glasgow Kelvin College’s independent label and is operated by Music Business students at the college. Founded in 1992, its roster has consistently boasted some of the best in local talent. Belle and Sebastian, Snow Patrol & Biffy Clyro are just a few of the artists who started out on Electric Honey and have since gone on to achieve international fame, a feat which the label and students involved are very proud of. Electric Honey seeks to discover and nurture local talent, and students are encouraged to take this into account when conducting artist and repertoire research.

Headlined by We Were Promised Jetpacks and Scottish Album of the Year Award nominees Fatherson, the Electric Honey Sessions at Magners Summer Nights will see performances from Electric Honey artists past and present: Woodenbox, Young Aviators, Finn LeMarinel, Harry and the Hendersons and Mayor Stubbs.

We Were Promised Jetpacks really need no introduction. Formed back in 2003, the Scottish indie group have gained a massive following of fans and toured worldwide promoting their three albums. We Were Promised Jetpacks are sure to bring their alternative exuberant sound and perfect mix of balanced and experimental material to the bandstand stage this August.

Fatherson are an intriguing trio from Kilmarnock who have captured the attention of music enthusiasts far and wide with their unique indie rock performances. Fresh from supporting co-headliners We Were Promised Jetpacks, along with Frightened Rabbit and Idlewild, the trio will bring their emotive, finely tuned performance to Magners Summer Nights.

Woodenbox are fast establishing themselves as one of Scotland’s most exciting bands. With an impressive list of festivals and tours under their belt, a new album and a busy summer ahead, the future is bright for the Scottish sextet.

The charismatic Young Aviators got tails wagging with their debut EP release ‘Self Help’ on Electric Honey in 2013. The Northern Irish quartet has become infamous for their energetic and alluring personalities on stage (particularly frontman Declan McKay) and intuitive song writing.

A young musician with a breath-taking talent who has been circulating the Glasgow music scene for a couple of years now is Finn LeMarinel. His 'guitar wizardry’ - Ravechild (2015) is only appreciated in its entirety when witnessed live. Tentative, fearless guitar playing, falsetto vocals and sincere song writing make for great listening and a magical atmosphere.

Seven piece Harry and the Hendersons are heavily influenced by country, folk, and blues and deliver a great thick sound as a collective. They have been performing in Glasgow and across Scotland for a few years and have gathered a strong fan following. Their live performances magnify their tightness as a band, especially their hair raising vocal harmonies.

Mayor Stubbs is an unmistakably talented musician and song writer. Having performed at several gigs around Glasgow in the past 12 months, Mayor Stubbs has shown himself to be universally unique with his acoustic/folk style, lyrical phrasing and complex time signatures.

Being part of the production team behind the Electric Honey Sessions at Magners Summer Nights has presented Glasgow Kelvin College’s Music Business students with an amazing opportunity to get actively involved in arranging and promoting a gig and to gain valuable industry experience.

As a current student, I search for chances to meet artists, promoters, event organisers and staff, press, retailers, PRs, merchandisers and other industry personnel. Working on Magners Summer Nights has given me a valuable chance to improve my communication and networking skills, and I’m now more confident in my own ideas and not afraid to try something wacky to reach out to an audience.

We recently held the annual Electric Honey Showcase at Òran Mór as part of the West End festival and working on this provided me with the foothold I needed to get started on promoting actions the sessions at Magners Summer Nights. The Òran Mór show was a roaring success with Apache Sun, SchnarffSchnarff and Magners Summer Nights performers Finn LeMarinel and Harry and the Hendersons all taking to the stage. The event was a great advertisement for Electric Honey, the Glasgow music scene and the up and coming artists who performed.

Meeting charismatic Young Aviators frontman Declan, recruiting a wonderful film crew, witnessing a bundle of amazing live sessions and building a good rapport with Subcity Radio were just some of my highlights from working on the show.

Magners Summer Nights will run from 6-8 and 13-15 August at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Bandstand and from 26-28 August at Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens. View the full line-up at www.magnerssummernights.com
