The Spooky Men’s Chorale plays three concerts in Scotland in August as well as making a return visit to the Edinburgh Fringe. The fifteen-strong a-cappella group from Melbourne, whose repertoire ranges from Georgian drinking songs and mischievous original numbers to unorthodox treatments of Earth, Wind & Fire and Abba hits, appears at Castle Douglas Town Hall on Saturday, August 22; Cottiers Theatre, Glasgow (23rd); Acoustic Music Centre @ St Brides, Edinburgh (24th); and Inchyra Arts Club, Glencarse, near Perth (25th). The choir will also give a workshop at the Pearce Institute, Govan Road, Glasgow in the afternoon of its Cottiers Theatre concert.

Milngavie Folk Club has announced a busy late summer programme, beginning with Irish singer-songwriter Gerry Creen on Saturday, August 15. Revered guitarist and singer John Doyle follows on Thursday, September 3 with Barbara Dickson (pictured) & Nick Holland (September 18), Incredible String Band founder Robin Williamson (September 19) and singer-songwriter-guitarist Steve Tilston, whose letter from John Lennon was the inspiration behind the film Danny Collins (September 25), all appearing for the club. All concerts take place in the Fraser Centre in Douglas Street with the exception of Barbara Dickson & Nick Holland who will appear in Milngavie Town Hall.

The Tubes, the San Francisco-based rock band whose 1975 debut album included the controversial rock anthem White Punks on Dope, include two Scottish dates on their 40th anniversary UK tour in August. The band, which features four original members - Fee Waybill (lead vocals), Roger Steen (guitar), Rick Anderson (bass) and Prairie Prince (drums) plus keyboardist David Medd, who has played with the band since 2006, will play Glasgow Art School on August 9 and the Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh on August 12.

The New Rope String Band plays its final Scottish gigs next month after the three musicians decided to retire the act after ten years together. The group, whose performances combine vaudeville, slapstick, Monty Python-esque humour, pyrotechnics, live interactive film and home-made props as well as virtuosic musicianship, has entertained audiences all over Europe and has been a major success at festivals including Celtic Connections and the Edinburgh Fringe, where it won a Herald Angel for excellence in 2012. It plays Speyfest, Fochabers on August 2; Twynholm Village Hall, Kirkcudbrightshire (3rd); The Gaiety Theatre, Ayr (4th); and Performing Arts Centre, Kilbarchan (6th).
