Magners Summer Nights festival is back for a second time after a sensational six days of top music acts last year to celebrate the re-launch of the iconic Kelvingrove Bandstand and Amphitheatre.
The open air venue, situated on the west bank of the river in Kelvingrove Park, was built in 1925 and hosted many fun-filled days of music, theatre and entertainment until its closure in 1999.
After a £2 million refurbishment over spring, 15,000 people came to the festival at the amphitheatre to see acts including Alison Moyet, Steve Earle and Teenage Fanclub last August.
This week, Magners is bringing some big names to the west end venue – as well as gourmet street food stalls and a cider garden for revellers to relax in throughout the evening.
Don’t miss King Creosote, real name Kenny Anderson, on Thursday. The Mercury nominated singer-songwriter is as praised for his endearingly humble, jokey manner onstage as for his awe-inspiring music. Anderson has previously prided himself on his ability to make grown men cry with his performances, particularly with his critically acclaimed record From Scotland with Love.
Eighties kids can get their nostalgia fix with Roddy Frame, the frontman from Eighties New Wave band Aztec Camera, who will be serenading Glasgow with solo work from his latest album Seven Dials on Friday.
Saturday is set to be a rock sizzler with loveable Scottish rogues Glasvegas playing to their ever loyal home crowd, supported by their friend, former Libertines guitarist Carl Barat and his indie-punk band The Jackals.
Student-run label Electric Honey Sessions take over with a showcase of Glasgow’s best young talent on Sunday. Guitar-driven indie band We Were Promised Jetpacks have been on the scene for years, having toured across Europe and more recently the U.S – but they are back on Scottish soil and sharing the stage with fast-rising alt-rock four piece Fatherson, folk-country outfit Wooden Box and Young Aviators, a Britpop trio hailing from County Down in Ireland.
Magners Summer Nights will be at Glasgow’s Amphitheatre and Bandstand from August 6-8 and August 13-15 and Edinburgh’s Ross Bandstand from August 26-28.
