Folk-roots-rock juggernaut Treacherous Orchestra plays four Scottish gigs in November and December. The band, whose latest album, Grind, has been shortlisted for the Album of the Year category at this year’s Scots Trad Music Awards and whose performances have earned them a nomination in the Live Act of the Year category at the same awards, play Eden Court Theatre, Inverness on Friday, November 20; Studio 24, Edinburgh on Saturday, November 21; the Lemon Tree, Aberdeen on Friday, December 11; and Drygate Brewery, Glasgow on Saturday, December 12.

Glasgow’s Star Folk Club stages two nights in December before taking a break until February to avoid competing with Celtic Connections during January. Scots song specialists Malinky, who currently comprise singers Fiona Hunter, Steve Byrne and Mark Dunlop and multi-instrumentalist Mike Vass, pictured, will appear at the club on December 1 and long-established Lanarkshire band Haggerdash follow on December 8. Both concerts begin at 8pm.

Scottish National Jazz Orchestra drummer, Alyn Cosker plays gigs with his Electric Band at Stereo, Glasgow on Wednesday, November 18 and the Jazz Bar, Edinburgh on Friday, November 20. The band features Cosker’s long-standing guitarist-collaborator Davie Dunsmuir, bassist Colin Cunningham from Hue & Cry, and keyboards player Steve Hamilton, who is currently working with former Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer Billy Cobham’s band.

Acid croft inventors Shooglenifty’s 25th anniversary tour continues after a mid-November break with gigs at Inchyra Arts Club, near Perth on November 27 and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye on November 28. The band, who released their eighth album, The Untied Knot, earlier this year, then go on to play in Applecross (December 4), Tarland (5th), Glasgow (18th), Resolis in the Black Isle (19th), Aviemore (20th), Arisaig (28th), and Stirling (29th), finishing the year at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations on December 31.
