GLASGOW promoters Sounds in the Suburbs have a busy April, beginning with a gig in Edinburgh by Melbourne-based Dave Graney and the MistLY with former Josef K, Orange Juice and Aztec Camera guitarist Malcom Ross at the Voodoo Rooms on Friday. The same line-up appears at 13th Note, Glasgow on Monday April 11. The promoters then move back to their regular venue, Woodend Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club in Jordanhill, where singer, songwriter and guitarist Declan Sinnott appears on Wednesday 20th followed by Canada’s Russell DeCarle Trio on Thursday 21st and China Crisis on Sunday 24th. Sounds in the Suburbs also welcome California-based blue-eyed soul singer Terry Reid and Blue Ridge Mountains blues and roots singer-guitarist Malcolm Holcombe back to Glasgow during May.

AWARD-winning singer Kathleen MacInnes, pictured, will be the main guest at Glasgow Gaelic music promoters Ceòl 's Craic’s April event, Ceòl Mòr Ostaig, at the CCA on Saturday April 16. The concert programme celebrates the vital contribution that the Gaelic college on Skye, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig continues to make to all aspects of contemporary Gaelic culture and includes instrumental music by Neil McDermott & Friends, songs and tunes from students at the college and a set by MacInnes, accompanied by pianist Mhairi Hall and multi-instrumentalist Mike Vass.

GLASGOW-based saxophonist Deke McGee celebrates the release of All Night Long, his first album in some thirty years as a professional musician, with a launch gig at Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow on Saturday. McGee has worked with a veritable Who’s Who of blues, soul and rock names including Buddy Guy, Joe Walsh, Big Joe Turner, Hamish Stuart, Bill Wyman, Zoot Money, George Melly, and the Fratellis and began writing and recording All Night Long in 2004. A collection of original rhythm ‘n’ blues tracks, the album was recorded in Glasgow and features McGee on vocals as well as saxophone.

ABERDEEN promoters Jazz at the Blue Lamp return to action on Thursday, April 14, with a spring season following a break after Aberdeen Jazz Festival. Edinburgh-based Australian singer Becc Sanderson is the season’s first guest, with saxophonist Laura Macdonald’s quartet following on April 21. Leading young London group Partikel bring their String Theory album to the Gallowgate venue on April 28 and May features Italian guitarist Simone Gubbiotti (5th), drummer Tom Bancroft’s Trio Red (12th) and vocal-saxophone partnership Claire Martin & Ray Gelato (19th).
