THE SCOTTISH Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh has a busy programme of live music this week as it hosts part of the capital’s Tradfest celebration of the traditional arts. Among those appearing are singer-actor Gerda Stevenson, who released her first album of original songs last year and brings her group to the centre on Thursday. Boys of the Lough founder, singer and flautist Cathal McConnell presents a programme of Irish songs with singer Susanna Orr Holland on Friday, and composer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Vass reprises his acclaimed In the Wake of Neil Gunn multi-media presentation on Sunday.

THE HARBOUR Arts Centre in Irvine is earning a reputation among touring groups as one of the top venues on the UK’s Americana circuit following successful recent presentations by Colorado bluegrass band The Railsplitters and Boston-based singer Laura Cortese. The Ayrshire venue hosts further gigs over the coming weeks, beginning with Canadian singer-guitarist Russell deCarle’s highly rated trio on Sunday, May 1 and continuing with old-time music specialists Sheesham & Lotus & Son (May 7), vintage jazz group The California Feetwarmers (June 17), and a double bill of neo-traditionalists Hillfolk Noir from Idaho and Nashville-based duo 10 String Symphony (July 17).

COLORADO-based singer-songwriter Teresa Storch, pictured, has added an extra concert to her upcoming debut tour of Scotland, which now begins in Edinburgh this Saturday. Storch, who studied applied physics at Colorado School of Mines, began busking in the Boston subways after being laid off from work and has gone on to achieve recognition at the prestigious Kerrville, Falcon Ridge and Rocky Mountain folk festivals. She appears at Victoria Park Hotel, Edinburgh on Saturday before playing a house concert in the capital on Sunday, then 13th Note Café, Glasgow on May 2; Hotel Argyll Hotel, Ullapool, on May 3; WASPs Arts Studio, Nairn on May 4; Market Bar, Inverness on May 5.

MEDIEVAL and Renaissance music specialists the Artisans are the latest guests of Pollok House in Glasgow’s Sunday afternoon concert series on May 8. A quartet whose programmes draw on music spanning four centuries from England, France, Spain and Italy and who play a variety of recorders, bagpipes, vielle, harp, rebec, symphony, oud and percussion instruments, the Artisans played to sell-out audience at Milngavie Music Club on their previous visit to Scotland. Their Pollok House concert begins at 5:30pm.
