DALAI Lama’s Gyuto Monks of Tibet visit Scotland in July for a programme of appearances that includes a concert on Arran and a three-day chanting and meditation experience at the CCA in Glasgow. The monks, who are signed to the world’s biggest record label, Universal, will arrive direct from Glastonbury Festival and play a concert supporting jazz piano duo Dave Newton & Euan Stevenson at Aultachorvie Island Retreat in Lamlash on Arran tomorrow (Friday, July 1) before going on to Ballater and Aberdeen. They then take up residency from Thursday 7 to Saturday 9 at the CCA, where they will give talks and demonstrations of chanting and meditation techniques as well as an evening performance on Friday 8 at 7pm.

GLASGOW'S Star Folk Club continues to promote music throughout the summer and has announced its programme for July. Singer-guitarist Ewan McLennan returns to the club on July 5, with long-established ballad singer Sylvia Barnes and guitarist Sandy Stanage following on July 12. Glasgow-based folk, blues, country and America band Doghouse Roses, pictured, appear on July 19 and a Lanarkshire double bill featuring singer-guitarist Graham Carter the eclectic 50 Shades of Blue completes the line-up on July 26. The club meets every Tuesday in the Admiral Bar, Waterloo Street and the music begins at 8pm.
