Prison Break’s return to TV is approaching, but fans will still have to wait until next year to see all the action.

However, a brand new sneak peek trailer – including behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast and crew – has been unveiled, with some very interesting snippets of information.

Leading stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, who play brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows respectively, explain how they won’t just have to break out of prison, but out of an entire country.

Based in Yemen in the Middle East, Wentworth reveals they “have to break out of the country itself”, so there is certainly more drama than perhaps fans thought possible.

It’s exciting enough for fans to see that Michael is alive and well after the last series ended with him seemingly dead, so this news will no doubt leave them chomping at the bit for the new show to hit the air.

“I think this is going to be even better than the original Prison Break,” Dominic adds in the teaser clip.

His character Lincoln will have to return the favour and break Michael out of prison this time, and more.

Executive producer Dawn Olmstead went on to confirm that many of the original, beloved Prison Break characters will return and have a “significant” role in getting Michael out of Yemen.

The clip also includes Sara Tancredi, Michael’s wife played by Sarah Wayne Callies, and their toddler son, although it isn’t clear if Michael knows he has a child as yet.

There is also a hint that Michael has been working with Isil, hence the reason he’s locked up again.

Prison Break’s return for a fifth season comes after the popular drama series has been off air since 2009.

A two-hour episode entitled The Final Break saw Michael’s character seemingly die, but now that’s all been proved wrong, it’s time to focus on what drama awaits.

Prison Break returns in early 2017 in the US on Fox.
