John and Gerry Kielty talk about their new Fringe show.
1 Tell us about your Fringe show
It’s a show we are writing for the RCS musical theatre students about mercenary songwriting for the pop industry based on our own experiences. It should be fun - if it isn't it's our fault. But we needed the money... we are musical mercenaries....
2 Best thing about the Fringe?
The people. The City is suddenly full of people from the farthest reaches of the planet all gathered together to express themselves and have fun and it's just great.
3 Worst thing about the Fringe?
The people. The city is suddenly full of people gathered together to seek attention, brandish fliers and make nuisances of themselves and it's just dreadful.
4 How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?
We don't come to the Fringe - the Fringe comes to us.
5 Favourite Fringe venue?
Greyfriars Kirkyard. We bring tourists to the layer of the Mackenzie Poltergeist on Ghost Tours and profit from the paranormal attacks it causes...
6 Best Fringe memory?
Winning Spirit of the Fringe for the second time. Just before they called us on I had Gerry in a headlock offstage... We ran on smiling, joyous, pretending nothing was wrong. I hate Gerry.
7 Best heckle?
We don't get heckled as such, but one time we were between shows on the Royal mile and Jimmy Saville jogged past Gerry, gave him a ham sandwich and slapped a jim'll fix it badge on his chest... so that's something to tell either the Police or our Grandkids...
8 Craziest on stage experience?
Gerry cut his own hair with scissors during a busking set. Really. It happened. It's all on YouTube. I think if you put in Martians, buskers, barber and Gerry you'll see the whole thing...
9 What’s on your rider?
Nothing, cos I find its too heavy. I like my rider to be as light as possible.
10 How do you wind down after a show?
I tend to sleep, eventually.
11 What do you love about Scotland?
It has all my favourite people and animals in it.
12 What do you like about Edinburgh?
It has all my favourite people and animals in it.
13 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
Sunbathed in graveyard?
14 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
Easy - Lorne Sausage (a sausage inspired by the massacres at Flodden Field) and Irn Bru sugar free... Or DIET IRN BRU as it should be remembered...

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
