MILNGAVIE Folk Club has a busy programme lined-up for the autumn, beginning with Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus on September 2. Acclaimed songwriter Boo Hewerdine appears in a duo with fellow singer-guitarist Dan Whitehouse on September 16 followed by Incredible String Band founder Robin Williamson on September 17 and finger-picking guitar legend Wizz Jones on September 18. Also due to appear at the club, which meets at the Fraser Centre in Douglas Street, are Irish folk veteran Andy Irvine, English country-blues performer Steve Phillips and his band, the Rough Diamonds, guitar stylist Pierre Bensusan, and English folksinger-guitarist Chris Wood.

EDINBURGH music activists Soundhouse recommence their Music Mondays programme at the Traverse Theatre on September 5 with singing trio Liane Carroll, Sophie Bancroft and Sara Colman appearing under the collective name Unleashed. American roots duo Cahalen Morrison & Eli West follow on September 12 and also confirmed are guitar master Martin Simpson, young Irish folk band Connla, Boys of the Lough founder Cathal McConnell, and Americana groups The Stray Birds and Furnace Mountain. Portobello-based singer Adam Holmes, who recently appeared in the Edinburgh International Festival presentation of Flit, precedes the Monday series with his band, the Embers, on Sunday, September 4.
