GLASGOW'S Star Folk Club presents a programme of English, Scottish and American music during November. English singer Naomi Bedford, whose A History of Insolence was included in Mojo magazine’s top ten albums of 2014, appears with guitarist and mandolin player Paul Simmonds on November 1, followed by one-man blues band Mike Whellans (November 8) and Texan singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez (November 15). Piper-whistle player Eddie Seaman and singer-guitarist Luc McNally, of young bands Barluath and Dosca respectively, play on November 22, with BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2014, singer Robyn Stapleton following on November 29. The club meets every Tuesday in the Admiral Bar in Waterloo Street and the music begins at 8pm.

MUSIC promoters Sounds in the Suburbs have announced a busy programme for November, starting with singer-songwriter Kim Edgar, pictured, who appears at Woodend Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club in Jordanhill, Glasgow on Thursday. Kiki Dee & Carmelo Luggeri and Eleanor McEvoy & Rosanne Reid follow at the same venue on November 5 and 13 respectively and Julia Fordham plays Oran Mor on the 20th. Other gigs across the city feature Swedish-Canadian songstress Sarah MacDougall, Berlin-based American jazz pianist Louis Durra’s trio, Vic Godard and the Subway Sect, and singer-guitarist Andy White.

JAZZ at the Blue Lamp in Aberdeen presents an international programme in November. Recently heard as part of BBC Radio 3’s 70th anniversary celebrations, the Glasgow-based New Focus Quartet appear at the Gallowgate venue on Thursday, ahead of a trio featuring Irish saxophonist Michael Buckley with trumpeter Colin Steele and pianist David Milligan on November 10. French quintet Massif Collectif arrive from Clermont Ferrand to play music with influences from Africa, India and their own Auverne tradition on the 17th and Berlin-based Californian pianist Louis Durra’s trio appears on the 24th.

Entertainer and TV personality Alastair MacDonald appears on November 1, followed by fiddle and guitar partnership Tom Kitching & Jon Loomes (8th) and Cornwall-based American singer-guitarist Sarah McQuaid ( 15th). Scots-Irish-Eastern European band Dallahan play on November 22 and singer-songwriter Kieran Halpin returns to the club on November 29. The club meets every Tuesday in Victoria Park House Hotel on Ferry Road and the music begins at 8pm.
