LEITH Jazz & Blues Festival goes ahead on June 2, 3 and 4 with over forty gigs taking place over the three days in various hostelries around the port from 2pm onwards every day. All sessions are free and bands appearing include the Diplomats of Jazz, Jazzmain and the Ugly Bug Ragtime 3. Among the many other attractions are pianists Brian Kellock, Daniel Smith and John Elliot, guitarists Kevin Mackenzie, Haftor Medboe and Ged Brockie, saxophonist Martin Kershaw, and singers Becc Sanderson, Freddie King, Jessie Bates, Rosie Nimmo, Lorna Reid, Alison Affleck, and Subie Coleman.

EDINBURGH’S Playtime jazz sessions have announced a full programme for June. Alto saxophonist Adam Jackson, who has toured and recorded with bassist Euan Burton’s quartet and is a member of Glasgow collective Elusive Tree, joins Playtime regular, saxophonist Martin Kershaw in a quintet tomorrow Thursday. Tenor saxophonist Phil Bancroft leads a tribute to one of the greatest saxophonists of all time, Sonny Rollins on Thursday, June 15, and the Playtime Quartet, featuring Kershaw, guitarist Graeme Stephen, bassist Mario Caribe and drummer Tom Bancroft, will appear on Thursday, June 29. The Playtime sessions take place fortnightly in The Outhouse, Broughton Street Lane, Edinburgh and the music begins at 8:00pm.
