Jenny Bede’s new comedy show ‘Eggtime’ will be at the Pleasance Dome during August.

1 Tell us about your Fringe show

It’s a new show called EGGTIME.  It’s 50 minutes of stand-up and songs about dating, dying alone and wanting a baby when you still feel like one yourself.

2 Best thing about the Fringe?

Being surrounded by brilliantly talented people all day every day; it’s really inspiring, not to mention bloody good fun.

3 Worst thing about the Fringe?

It’s exhausting; by the end of the month you feel like you’ve been through quite an ordeal. You get ill and you lose your voice and you forget what a vegetable looks like. The last few days of August are usually spent in a duvet in a bath at my parents’ house being drip fed vitamin C and positivity.

4 How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

I had my first year in 2008, with a musical at C Venues.  I’ve been most years since then.  Last year was my first year off in a while, so I’m really raring to go again.

5 Favourite Fringe venue?

I have a very real fondness for Henry’s Cellar Bar, which was a PBH free Fringe venue I performed at with Jessie Cave in 2013. It only had a few shows in it a day, and then went back to being a heavy metal bar the rest of the time. I really enjoyed seeing my name on a chalkboard.

6 Best Fringe memory?

My last show of the 2015 run was amazing. It was a Sunday and I was on my last legs, but I had the best audience of the month. It was so great to go out on a high.

7 Best heckle?

My mother shouting, ‘You were a mistake’. Genuinely. I can’t even remember how it came about but I think it was vaguely relevant. The other day during a preview I had a man sit in the front row and slowly shake his head in disbelief at how terrible he seemed to find it/me.  He’d occasionally alternate by putting his head in his hands and uttering ‘Oh for God’s sake, hurry up and end’ to himself. I encouraged him to leave as it clearly wasn’t for him, but he wouldn’t budge.

8 Craziest on stage experience?

I was in a production of Anne Frank in the Studio space in the Broadway Theatre Catford, which was quite a gruelling bit of theatre. One night there was a Queen tribute act on at the same time as us in the main theatre space and the sound bled quite badly. We were doing our best to ignore it but when ‘Fat bottomed girls’ rang out during a quiet moment the audience burst out laughing.

My friend Gareth had to deliver a particularly devastating monologue about Jews in Amsterdam being evacuated to ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ blaring out.  It was so surreal and terrible and hilarious but mainly terrible.

9 How do you wind down after a show?

The adrenaline from having performed makes me quite excitable and I tend to get giddy just looking at wine.  I need to look after my voice so I don’t have particularly big nights out, but luckily being quite a lightweight, I don’t need them. I like to think that I provide quite a valuable service for everyone else in that I will always be the most drunk in any room, even on just one drink, so I make people feel less bad about themselves. I’ll be home by 11pm with either a crepe or some chips or an entire wheel of brie and watch somewhere between 6-7 episodes of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares before falling into a peaceful slumber like the beautiful baby angel that I am.

10 What do you love about Scotland?

The people up here are the best.  I’m always amazed at how friendly and upbeat everyone is despite the often terrible weather.

11 What do you like about Edinburgh?

The smell… I think it’s hops but it smells like a Sugar Puffs. Its completely unique to Edinburgh so as soon as I get off the train it hits me that I’m going to be here for the month and I get properly excited. What can I say, I really like Sugar Puffs.

12 Favourite Scottish food/drink?

Battered stuff. Sausages, Mars bars, burgers, Kettles, cars…doesn’t matter as long as it’s battered. You just cover it in batter, chuck it in and have a lovely time.

13 Sum up your show in three words
