Kae Kurd’s debut Edinburgh Festival show ‘Kurd Your Enthusiasm’ will be at the Pleasance Courtyard Bunker 2 during August.

1. Tell us about your Fringe show

My show is a look aat my life. I come from a refugee family that moved to South London and it's my truth. I talk about the different experiences I had and how current events shape a narrative about immigrants and refugees that isn't the correct one. I try and show you life from my point of view hopefully while making you laugh and learn a few things.

2 How does it feel to be playing the Fringe for the first time?

Exciting and nerve-wracking. It's the biggest arts festival in the world and I'm taking a show up there.

3 Best live act you’ve seen at a Fringe?

I saw Bill Burr last year in the Pleasance Courtyard and that was amazing to me because it showed you no matter how big an act you can be you're never too big for the Fringe Festival. It was encouraging seeing him walk around the bars, he really immersed himself in the culture.

4 Best thing about the Fringe?

The sheer amount of shows you can watch in such a short space of time. I watched over 25 shows last year, each giving me a different perspective on things.

5 Worst thing about the Fringe?

The weather! It's wet and it's cold there will be times you're not having a good day and the weather doesn't help at all, which is why I try and find somewhere to hibernate. I feel sorry for the flyerer's they've got a tough job, rain or shine they have to be out there. They're the real unsung heroes.

6 If you were not a performer what would you be doing?

I think I'd be working behind the scenes in music or working in politics. Either that or something really creative. I hate monotony so I'd need something that was varied and let me be myself.

7 How do you combat pre-gig nerves?

I don't get massive pre-gig nerves anymore but it used to be really intense and I'd stand in a powerful position and recite "I'm funnier than Eddie Murphy" about a 1000 times until I got on stage.

8 Worst on stage experience?

I was doing a gig near my house and I was on stage, five minutes in I saw water coming down from the ceiling about two metres away hitting the box where the mic leads were coming from. I put down the mic and then 30 seconds later the ceiling fell in. That's what I do though: I bring the house down.

9 What do you love about Scotland?

The people, they're no-nonsense and friendly and I love the language.

10 What do you like about Edinburgh?

I love the architecture, it's breathtaking at times, when you get away from the fringe sometimes and look at it with different eyes it really is a beautiful city.

11 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?

I shouted "Freedom" at Arthurs Seat.

12 Favourite Scottish food/drink?

Irn-Bru, who would've thought an orange liquid could taste nothing like orange?
