THE BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra will combine the worlds of music and science on October 8 at Glasgow City Halls in its latest family concert.
Music, the Universe and Everything features composers inspired by planet Earth and the solar system.
The concert is planned to include music from Holst’s The Planets, Mussorgsky’s A Night on the Bare Mountain and John Adams’s A Short Ride in a Fast Machine.
It will be presented by Greg Foot, the science expert on Blue Peter.

PUNCHLINE will be presenting their next comedy night at a new venue – Central Hall, Edinburgh, on October 14.
Tickets are now on sale for the night which will be hosted by Nish Kumar with Felicity Ward headlining.
Chris Betts will open the evening followed by Jamie MacDonald.
This is the first comedy night to be presented at Central Hall since it was renovated in 2012.
The 720 seater venue on Lothian Road will have a full licensed bar on the evening.

YOUNG Glasgow-based bands Mezcla and Graham Costello’s Strata are presenting a double bill at the Hug and Pint in Great Western Road on Sunday, October 1 at 7:30pm to showcase the local contemporary jazz scene.
Led by the current Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year, bassist David Bowden, the six-piece Mezcla draws on influences from around the world, including West Africa and Latin America, and drummer Costello’s group has been attracting attention for its dynamic, intricate music since appearing on BBC Radio Scotland’s Jazz Nights at the Quay in the summer. thehugandpint.com

Click Clack specialize in adventurous music programming and have lined up bassist Dave Conway’s experimental group Revenge Piano, American folk and harmony duo Delightful Squalor and the saxophone, tuba and drums combo Trio Velcro. Click Clack promotes on the last Thursday of each month at Henry’s Cellar Bar in Morrison Street. The music begins at 8:30pm.

ACOUSTICE guitarist Tony McManus returns to Scotland for six concerts in October. Paisley-born McManus now lives in Canada and is among the elite group of players who have a specially designed Paul Reed Smith signature guitar made by the Maryland-based luthier to stars including Carlos Santana, Neil Schon, of Journey, Alex Lifeson, of Rush, and English folk-blues picker Martin Simpson. McManus continues to explore Scottish, Irish and Breton tunes and has developed a specialism in arranging bagpipe music for the guitar. He plays at Annandale Arms Hotel, Moffat on Tuesday, October 3; Dunfermline Folk Club (4th); Cottier’s Theatre, Glasgow (5th); An Tobar, Tobermory (6th); Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Isle of Skye (7th); and Ullapool Guitar Festival (8th).
