THE Edinburgh Quartet are extending applications to the UK’s top music schools and conservatoires.
Musical talent is being invited to compete for the opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside the Edinburgh Quartet in their forthcoming season.
Students between the ages of 18-25 are invited to apply, with a limited number selected to go forward to participate in a live audition and workshop event at the Reid Concert Hall in Edinburgh on 11 February 2018.
By the end of the event, the Quartet will pick one person to come on board as their apprentice and form a quintet for an intensive period of rehearsal, mentoring and performances in the forthcoming season.
Applications to the first round are open now, and will close on 2 January.

THE National Film and Television School (NFTS) has announced that film and TV drama Assistant Director and TV drama training expert, Alison Goring has been appointed as its first Head of NFTS Scotland.
First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon announced funding of £475,000 in her keynote speech at the Edinburgh International Television Festival in August 2017, to support plans for the NFTS to open a hub at BBC Scotland’s studios in Glasgow and Dumbarton Studios.
The school will "specifically work to address gaps in existing provision by delivering courses other providers aren’t currently offering in Scotland, such as Production Accounting, Drama Editing and Factual Development".
NFTS Scottish alumni include BAFTA-winning director, Lynne Ramsay, BAFTA-winning Sherlock and Dr Who director, Douglas Mackinnon, multi award-winning director, Gillies Mackinnon; Oscar-nominated animator, Sharon Colman (How to Train Your Dragon) and the NFTS’ founding director, Colin Young.

AARON Angell is to present a series of new works including ceramic sculpture, inflatables, painting, Victorian furniture and plant life for the new exhibition at Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA).
At the centre of the exhibition is Glasgow Museums’ Wardian Case, aVictorian fern case which will be displayed for the first time in over a quarter of a century.
It was conserved especially for the exhibition and is to be fully planted with a range of ferns and mosses in a style reminiscent of its original display in the mid-nineteenth century.
One of the few surviving original Wardian Cases, it dates from around 1860.
Angell studied at the Slade School of Art and is the founder of Troy Town Art Pottery, a radical and psychedelic pottery for artists.
He lives and works in London.
