  • What is your Fringe show about?

My show doesn’t really have a theme this year. It is a collection of stories and observations rejoicing at the folly of humanity.

  • How many times/many years have you appeared at the Fringe?

I think this is the seventh solo show that I am bringing to Edinburgh but I have done compilation shows and sketch shows too in the past. So I have probably been part of 10 Fringes.

  • What’s your most memorable moment from the Fringe?

The moment I heard I had been nominated for best new comer way back in 2007 was such a surprise. I had been having quite a tough time, really struggling to get audiences and I was having some rather strange shows. The month was taking its toll on me and I was feeling quite despondent. And then suddenly to get such a lovely piece of news it made the whole ordeal worthwhile.

  • What’s the worst thing about the Fringe?

It is one week too long. By thevb  time we get to the end of the run everyone is exhausted. Three weeks would be much easier for to manage.

  • If you were not a performer what would you be doing?

I’d like to landscape gardening. I am a dreadful gardener, I kill everything but I do love plants and being outside. I could maybe specialize in hardy rockery plants that can tolerate my lack of skills or I would be quite happy just shifting rocks, I like a bit of manual work. Zoe Lyons, Rock Shifter, that’s a great job title.

  • How do you prepare for a performance?

I pace around a lot and blindly look over notes. I don’t have a specific ritual but I do like a bit of quiet before I go on.

  • Favourite thing about being in Edinburgh?

The chance to see so many brilliant shows in a beautiful city.

  • What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?

I once walked the West Highland Way with some friends. It was great fun but the blisters on the feet were something else!

  • Favourite Scottish food/drink?

I love haggis with a whisky gravy. I don’t think that you can get more Scottish than that.

  • Sum up your show in three words

Show summary

As seen on Live at the Apollo (BBC Two), Mock the Week (BBC Two), Room 101 (BBC One) and regularly heard on BBC Radio 4's News Quiz, Just a Minute, The Now Show and plenty more. This hugely popular comic returns to the Fringe with a fresh crop of quick-fire observational gags, delivered with utter conviction not to mention 'proper laugh-out-loud one-liners'.
