Chris Washington performs his new show, You Beauty!, at Pleasance Courtyard (Upstairs) fduring August.

  • What is your Fringe show about?

My show is about the mad year I’ve had since last year’s show. A year ago I was a postman using all my holidays in one go to head up to the fringe. Heading in to the unknown with an hour of stuff I’d thought of whilst walking the streets of Wigan in the rain, delivering letters and getting told off for not shutting people’s gates. Now I’m a full time comedian and I absolutely love it... You Beauty!

  • How many times/many years have you appeared at the Fringe?

I came up in 2015 doing short spots, then in 2017 I did my debut hour, so this will be my 3rd time.

  • What’s your most memorable moment from the Fringe?

Last year receiving the phone call to say I’d been nominated for best newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. What a surreal moment. I thought it was the alarm I’d set on my phone to go out flyering my show. I would describe the feeling to being like getting 5 numbers and the bonus ball on the comedy lottery (You Beauty!).

  • What’s the worst thing about the Fringe?

Having to add an extra 15-20 minutes on any walking journey because of the amount of people (I am definitely part of the problem, and understand this is much more annoying if you live in Edinburgh all year round…Sorry!).

  • If you were not a performer what would you be doing?

I would definitely still be a postman. Eleven years in and nine years away from receiving my 20 years service Tesco voucher.

  • How do you prepare for a performance?

I try not to have any pre show superstitions. Edinburgh is intense enough without overthinking and worrying about stuff like that. Last year I had an enjoyable show after eating a vegetarian breakfast so I turned veggie for 3 days then tried a haggis pizza and it changed my life.

  • Favourite thing about being in Edinburgh?

Telling daft stories about my life for an hour a day for nearly a month to people who pay to sit, listen and (hopefully) laugh. I feel very lucky to have that privilege and still can’t quite believe it’s my job.

  • What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve ever done?

I got quite upset when they changed the Irn-Bru recipe.

  • Favourite Scottish food/drink?

Haggis Pizza!

  • Sum up your show in three words

Feel-good underdog story (sorry if that’s 4).
