The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is only in it’s first week and I’ve already seen one well-known comedian crying on the roadside, two discarded gorilla suits, and far too many cheerful student performers. So before everyone goes mad, packs it in and goes home, here are a few recommendations…

Funmbi Omotayo is performing his first Edinburgh hour entitled Legal Immigrant – a show about his childhood moving from Hackney to Lagos, and back again. I shared a few previews with Funmbi (an inordinately smiley man) earlier this year, and as you can imagine the similarities between us are endless.

Funmbi Omotayo will perform at the Gilded Balloon from August 10-30.

If you enjoy a few acrobatics then head to see Close Up, which is the new offering from Australian company Circa. You can say a lot of things about the Australians (always good fun), but when it comes to throwing people about without causing major injury, they can’t be beaten. I hope I haven’t just jinxed them by saying that.

Close Up will perform at Underbelly, George Square on August 10-11, 13-17, 19-24 and 26-31.

And another of my personal favourites is Joe Lycett, a wonderfully funny man, who doesn’t even have to open his mouth to make me laugh. I always enjoy sharing a bill with him, so if you get the chance, do head to the Pleasance Courtyard to see him.

Joe Lycett will perform That's the Way, A-Ha A-Ha, Joe Lycett at Pleasance Courtyard on August 11-16, 18-23 and 25-30.

Hal Cruttenden will perform Straight Outta Cruttenden at Pleasance Courtyard from August 10-16 and 18-30.
