We are at week 2 of the fringe. As a comic I get to see loads more comedy than you so I'm recommending some of the best stuff up here. YOU ARE WELCOME
Ed Byrne
Stand up legend, never drops below excellent. If you've only seen him on TV you are missing out on brilliant long, layered and satisfying routines. Ed squeezes every last joke from a topic and there is a an absolute peach in this show about his son's favourite pair of shoes. I won't say anymore as I don't want to ruin it for you
Ed Byrne will perform Outside Looking In at the Gilded Balloon Gilded Balloon at 9pm on August 12-16, 18-26 and 28-30.
Sarah Kendall
A comic who has been at the top of her game for a long time. I have seen bits of this show as work in progress. I love the pictures she paints of rural Australia and her teenage years. She's a really brilliant story teller and worth an hour of your time whenever you are at the fringe
Sarah Kendall will perform A Day in October at Assembly George Square Studios at 6.45pm on August 12-16 and 18-31.
Glenn Wool
Always superb, ridiculously overlooked for awards . So many great routines over the years & he has a brilliant theatricality. He will delight and challenge you. He is very, very good at comedy
Glenn Wool will perform Creator, I am but a Pawn at Assembly George Square Studios at 9.20pm on August 12-16, 18-23 and 25-30.
Joseph Morpurgo
I got very drunk and tried to explain the discovery of DNA for Drunk History. Joseph played Francis Crick
and was very funny. That was my first experience of him. Then in July I did a charity gig with him and caught 15 mins of his show and brilliant, brilliant it was too! Really different, inventive, niche and very funny. Go see him
Joseph Morpurgo will perform Soothing Sounds for Baby at Pleasance Courtyard at 8.15pm on August 12-17 and 19-31.
Aunty Donna's Boys
I love these boys! They skewer the 'lads bantz' perfectly. They are physical, silly, with great accents and improv skills. If you want pure fun give them a go
Aunty Donna's Boys will perform at the Gilded Balloon at 10pm on August 12-16 and 18-31.
Eleanor Tiernan
She has funny bones. Eleanor can just arch an eyebrow in the right way and have you in stitches. She is on at the Free Fringe too, lucky you
Eleanor Tiernan will perform at Laughing Horse @ The White Horse at 8.30pm on August 12-23 and 25-30.
Tiff Stevenson will perform Mad Man at The Stand Comedy Club on August 6-16 and 18-29.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
