Morgan and West discuss grumpy humans, moustaches and performing with Paloma Faith.

Tell us about your Fringe show

Put rather simply it’s a magic show for kids that the grown-ups in the audience will really love too. Tricks that will confound and amaze five and 50-year-olds alike coupled will a silliness that will have even the grumpiest tiny human and most miserable full-sized homosapien laughing with glee.

Best thing about the Fringe?

The atmosphere. You can’t beat the variety of people, shows, food, drink, and all round sense of fun.

Worst thing about the Fringe?

The atmosphere. Atmospheric pressure that is. We have spent countless Fringes standing on the Royal Mile hoping, just hoping, that the meteorologists were off the mark and that it would not rain.

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

Since 2007, so that would be nine years now?

Favourite Fringe venue?

A car. In 2007 there was a show for two people that took place in a car driving around the city. Wonderful stuff!

Best Fringe memory?

Performing with Paloma Faith as our assistant as part of the BBC Radio One Fun and Filth Cabaret. I’m not sure we managed the filth but we definitely fulfilled the fun part of the bargain.

Best heckle?

There’s not a lot of room for heckles in a magic double act. Last year though, whilst Mr Morgan was being fed sewing-needles for a trick, someone in the front just muttered (rather loudly) ‘Rubbish. Bloody Rubbish.’ I think they had been expecting old time crooners in the cabaret...

Craziest on stage experience?

Doing a (rather excellent) card trick for 3,000 people in the Edinburgh Playhouse and then running across town to do the same trick for 15 people in a cabaret.

What’s on your rider?

English breakfast tea, milk (semi-skimmed), ginger biscuits, moustache wax and a gentleman’s beard comb.

How do you wind down after a show?

There’s not much opportunity to wind down at the Fringe. Once the final show of the run is over we tend to wind down with a long overdue cold.

What do you love about Scotland?

The views. The scenery and countryside in Scotland is second to none, especially as you push further north.

What do you like about Edinburgh?

The layout of the city. There’s something fantastic about a city where you can go in a building at street level, climb six flights of stairs, and come out at (an albeit different) street level. Also what other city has both a superb castle and an awe-inspiring mountain in the middle of it?

What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

Eaten a deep fried Mars bar on the Royal Mile and not immediately suffered a cardiac arrest.

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

Jokes? Ah yes, jokes. Those. To be perfectly honestly we don’t really tell jokes, although we do know that a Scottish crowd responds brilliantly to some jaw dropping magic.

Favourite joke?

Did you hear about the angry magician?

He pulled his hare out.

Morgan and West will perform at Underbelly Med Quad today.
